Finally, belatedly, Ibrox Noise offers our match player ratings for what was a clinical, comfortable and routine win in Dingwall against a rather well-organised County who ultimately had no answer for Rangers’ class.

Butland:

Had one slightly sharp save or two to make, and did fumble another drive before the offside flag spared him, but really wasn’t tested aside this. But we did see his dominant side and he’s big in the 18-yard area. He’s still fractionally rusty having played so little football the past few years, but there’s no denying this is a quality stopper. 7

Tavernier:

His goal was absolutely magical, scarcely believable it dipped that much, and aside that he defensively seemed a little more with it, helped by a strong display from John Lundstram especially. He wasn’t sensational, that goal notwithstanding, but just lately he’s offered a bit more. 7

Goldson:

Absolutely zero as a defender – no blocks, clearances, nothing – couple of tackles all he could offer and spent a lot of the match being treated for knocks. His passing was poor also, and the days he was always over 90% in that area seem a long way away. 6

Souttar:

Big, strong, and doing Goldson’s work for him, County couldn’t get a sniff from him and he dominated the rear. By a distance the best defender at the club and in the country right now. Owned the box. 9

Barisic:

He had another good game – got an assist of course, and he’s getting a lot of these these days, the Croat is enjoying a strong spell of form even if he wasn’t overly pushed at the rear in this one. 8

Lundstram:

Having a little renaissance himself – after looking so sluggish and off it the past few months, this was a strong, dominant and influential performance in which he wasted little of the ball and made one cracking tubthumping tackle like the old days. More of this John, we’ve missed this side of you. 8

Raskin:

The Belgian had a good performance in this one – his defensive instincts in play and he worked with with Lunny – he managed an outstanding 3 tackles (like Lunny) but a stupendous 5 interceptions as he broke up everything Ross County tried. He’s not big, or vocal, and he’s not even that obvious – but he’s a very sung hero who does so much. 8

Cantwell:

Subdued – this was not the playmaking dominant role he usually offers, even though he was in the right slot. He did alright, nothing magical, and wasn’t chasing around quite with the vigour of usual. Solid but no more. 6

Lammers:

A bit mediocre – he did get quite a few shots in, a couple of target, but he’s just not offering what Michael Beale wants out of him – or maybe he is. Had a lot of the ball but did so little with it. 5

Dessers:

Another one who’s not delivering, two assists v PSV are skewing the picture of what the Nigerian brings, and it’s not a lot – wasteful like Lammers with his chances and had the fewest touches of any Rangers player. 5

Roofe:

Exceptional – his passing was a bit sketchy, but his goal clinical and he did a mountain of work off the ball. His running is great and his positional sense very good. What a return to the first team. 9

Subs:

Sima:

He was sort of bright. Tried as hard as he could to make things happen, but he just keeps falling short with the quality. Managed to win a couple in the air. Again, that staggering goal v PSV has skewed the way we look at him. 5

Matondo:

A man completely reborn – 3 shots, one on target, he keeps making his mark with every cameo he gets and he’s getting close to starting. Offering a tonne more than the new signings, that’s for sure. 8

Lawrence:

Rusty, clearly needs a lot of minutes. 5

Danilo:

Another Danilo appearance, another open goal miss. 3

Manager:

Michael Beale rang a couple of changes here – he will be thrilled with Roofe and Lundstram’s performances, two guys giving him major new options if they keep these levels up. His management has absolutely improved the last two matches – we were very impressed v PSV and this was very clinical. It’s definitely clicking more and more now, even if his new forwards still aren’t. 8

  1. I’m really concerned that our new strikers are just not delivering any impact at all. Dressers just jumps around looking busy with no impact. Lammers drifts in and out looks technical but again delivers nothing. Worst of all and the one that looks the slowest and unfit is Danillo . Awful at times …Morelos would have scored at least 2 of those chances . Worried.

    • Have to agree. None of them look like good buys at the moment. Have to hope they will click, or improve, or do something!

  2. Great player ratings, Souttar was outstanding definitely the best defender in Scotland. Tavs goal was WoW, Lunny was looking much sharper and Matondo holy shit that boy is fast (Usain Bolt fast). He could be Beales secret weapon in Eindhoven. 💙💙
