Rangers can expect some serious interest in Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin over the next 6 months, but the club is expected to be safe with the star duo at least for the summer window.
Cantwell especially had a scintillating start to his Rangers career, following the ‘running of his Norwich race’ at Carrow Road, leading to a downtime for the attacking midfielder – Rangers saw the potential, and the exposure he is receiving thanks to his new lease of life in Govan is alerting sides who weren’t previously interested in an unhappy player on the fringes of Norwich.
His starring role at Ibrox the past four+ months has alerted Premier League sides to his form, and of course his previous and impressive experience in England’s topflight are a solid string to the bow of the 25-year-old who is showing that the pressure of the Rangers shirt is an absolute stroll to him.
As for Raskin, same deal really – he’s not quite lit Rangers up in the way his illustrious teammate has, but in his quiet method has shone, and shown the jersey isn’t too heavy for him either.
In both cases, cream has predictably risen to the top.
As a result, they are both being watched, Cantwell especially, and if he has a sparking start to next season, including impressive performances in Europe (it’ll be his first time at that level) then there’s no denying Rangers will receive serious interest in January.
Cantwell, as we know, has been the most immediately-impressive signing Rangers have made in many, many years, and players who thrive for Rangers (or Celtic) are always attracting interest from England.
But thankfully there should be no major bids et al for either he or Raskin till next year. But Rangers are well aware it’s coming in due course.
Price? Rangers will already expect at least £20M for a player of Cantwell’s clear quality – his peak market value was £30M but Norwich got greedy and expected £50M, wrecking the deal to Aston Villa at the time. But Rangers will certainly expect a lot for a player who has absolutely shone in Scotland.
Raskin a bit more modest, he’s not gone much up in value, still a solid circa £10M region. But both of them are unlikely to be at Rangers long term.
And that’s that.
Glad I read the article and not just the headline, Phew!! I love these 2 players and yes no doubt they will more than likely move on at some stage I would like to think we will still be watching them for a couple of seasons. 💙💙
