Rangers are ready to announce Jack Butland as the club’s new goalie after the 30-year-old passed his Rangers medical and agreed terms.

The former Crystal Palace and Manchester United goalkeeper, with around 10 England caps to his name, succeeds Allan McGregor as Rangers’ number one and will compete, for now, with Robby McCrorie for the jersey, with the youth product demoted to deputy.

The stumbling block of wages from 10 days ago was resolved when Butland decided to change his mind, and reduce his demands, and now all that is required is a signature, which is now a formality.

Rangers will announce the signing this week, and Rangers fans will finally have a quality stopper between the sticks the fans can trust.

Butland’s career has exclusively been in England, at both Championship and Premier League level – Rangers are getting a top-quality stopper here in Butland, and it must be said, the links to his name from Rangers have been going on a very, very long time.

It must also not be forgotten Butland was valued at over £20M not all that long ago, so Rangers’ new stopper is around 90 appearances in the Premier League, almost 10 for England, 161 in the Championship, and was valued among the most expensive goalies around.

He will view this as a new start, a new challenge, and he is the kind of quality Ibrox Noise has been preaching to arrive.

This, we put on record, is much more what we want than Sterling or Dowell, and it’s players of Butland’s calibre that will raise Rangers’ level much more to what it should be.

Add in the chaos over at Parkhead and it’s all moving in the right direction isn’t it?

  1. Yip medical passed contract signed all that’s left is official statement. He must have been given assurances that he will be no1 imo. I feel for Robby but it’s obvious that Beale doesn’t rate him highly enough and although he is in the right age bracket Beale wants his own team. 💙💙

  2. Good business, He’s got very good pedigree and experience . Commanding in the box. Just need to find another CH in place of Goldson and we’re heading in the right direction .
