The Scottish press are naturally at it again with Rangers, making fake headlines about John Lundstram in order to get attention and use our name for traffic.

The latest is with a national red top making the following headline:

“John Lundstram in bullish Rangers told you so boast as he tells Malik Tillman critics ‘you all slated him'”

And the offence in question?

He requested at the start of the season that the press and punters in general give the lad time, given they were all slating the American international.

That’s it. He pointed that out, that he’d asked the public to go easy on the kid and stop slating him, and from that the red tops call that a ‘bullish boast’ an ‘I told you so’ rant.

It just goes to show how the press will twist a sensible statement into a bigmouth rant when it was nothing of the sort. In fairness, we do urge caution with his suggesting Tillman is ‘up there as one of the best talents he’s ever seen’, that does put pressure on the boy, but in general the notion he’s boasting is a bit ridiculous.

He was simply asked about Tillman and his form, and pointed out the same people in the room were slaughtering the kid 9 months ago when he’d suggested laying off him.

That said, we still do urge caution in general – it’s one thing ruining Dundee Utd who sit rock bottom of the table, quite another producing it in the big matches which Tillman has never done bar Eindhoven. He’s never turned up v Celtic and has looked out of his depth, so Lunny is putting some pressure on the kid for Parkhead with such a claim about his talent.

But he’s absolutely right to defend his own team mate, and to point out the hypocrisy in the press, and it shows a bit of gumption on his part to actually ridicule the press for being so two-faced and embarrassing themselves.

Nothing wrong with sticking up for yourself and the club, it’s what good Rangers men should do when faced with something negative or hypocritical.
