Michael Beale has definitively confirmed Rangers will not be pursuing any interest in Everton’s Tom Davies after the out-of-favour Goodison midfielder was heavily linked with the club following Beale’s own praise of the 24-year-old.

Asked on Davies in recent weeks, Beale said:

“Tom Davies, he used to kick my Liverpool Under 23s team all around the place. There’s a bit of John Lundstram about him.”

And Beale has now poured any cold water on a pursuit kicking in, saying:

“There has been no talk about Tom, you caught me on the hop that day and I said a couple of nice things about him because he is a young British player who I saw coming through as a young player. I am pleased to see his progress, he plays for a fantastic football club and I think that is where he is going to be, he is not going to be a Rangers player in the future.”

So that one is officially dead too. Following 10 days ago where it looked like both Todd Cantwell and Tom Davies were strong contenders to make the switch to Rangers under an Ibrox boss who really rated them, it seems both links are now completely done and Rangers have moved on.

This stuff is all part of the silly season, but with Beale’s generosity with verbals and willing to yap about most things (true or not) there will be a lot more of this kind of link and story than there perhaps used to be.

As for Davies, not losing out on much – he can’t even get a game for a truly diabolical Everton and he’s trying to move on – despite his market value being high into the £10M range, he’s not in favour for Frank Lampard despite how truly terrible the Toffees are.

Rangers? As Beale explains, he’s not interested in in Davies, which frankly we’re relieved about because trying to distinguish in a Rangers match between Steven Davis, Ben Davies and Tom Davies would have been a bit too much for us.

As it is, we move on, and we await news on Morgan Whittaker – but then, he’s not a central midfielder or a defensive one like Cantwell or Davies, so that’s a different area.

All going on. Or not.
