“Statement” – Rangers legend believes Ryan Kent will shine v Liverpool

Rangers legend Alex Rae believes the SPL’s standout performer, by a mile, is Antonio Colak, and he stands a strong chance of starting on Wednesday, while it’s time for Ryan Kent to produce a ‘statement’ performance.

Speaking to BoyleSports UCL bets and Ibrox Noise, Rae suggested that Colak’s morale is sky high at the moment.

He said:

“Rangers’ recent form has been decent. They’re free-scoring and have picked up a couple of good results against decent opposition. St Mirren are having a good season and Tynecastle is never an easy place to go. They’ve also got Antonio Colak who is one of the standout players in Scotland right now. He’s hit the ground running and has produced a remarkable turnaround. It’ll be very interesting to see who leads the line on Wednesday night because Alfredo Morelos started the last couple of games against Napoli and Liverpool but I don’t think he’s fully fit and Colak’s confidence will be sky-high.”

But he thinks Kent was just rested against the Buddies and is ready to make a real statement against his former employers:

“Ryan Kent was rested at the weekend so I’d imagine he’ll have a big involvement in the game against Liverpool and this could be a great time for him to put out a statement performance. You’ve also got Colak who’s in form and Morelos’ physicality to come off the bench. If fully fit, you’d start Alfredo Morelos because his record in Europe last season was brilliant but he’s not fully up to speed yet. One thing’s for sure, the Ibrox atmosphere is always intimidating.”

He also believes, clearly, that Morelos would start this one if he was fully-fit and on his game, but the reality perhaps is that Colak’s form is just too strong to drop him now regardless of Morelos’ capabilities.

Rae definitely sees this as a match the home side can get a point in, but we at Ibrox Noise think we’re more than capable of all three given Liverpool’s dishevelment.

As for Kent? Well, he will need a big rise in displays if he’s to finally regain form, looking so unmotivated and off it lately.

Truthfully, if Kent can’t get himself up for this one, he might as well leave now.

We await with interest Wednesday’s tussle.
