Rangers down to ZERO fit defenders as ANOTHER injury appears

Rangers are in a full-blown defensive red alert crisis after Ben Davies followed Connor Goldson into the treatment room, potentially leaving Giovanni van Bronckhorst with just Leon King and James Sands as his only fit defensive bodies.

John Souttar, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, and now Davies may all be unavailable for Rangers for some time, with only the slim hope that Davies might not be blighted to the same extent.

This adds to the loss of Calvin Bassey, Niko Katic and of course Leon Balogun to other clubs as Giovanni looks at a complete nuclear meltdown of his defence with borderline zero options left.

As we suggested earlier, Rangers’ boss almost certainly has to dip into the Bosman market now, and with Jason Denayer and Mangala still available, these would certainly be options worth considering, but how did it get to this state?

SEVEN defenders either injured or left, which is quite simply unprecedented for this club and a damning indictment of a truly shocking summer window of work which let 3 fine defenders go, signed a sicknote, and has suffered the loss of pretty much every worthy defender this club has had the past four seasons.

We are now left with potentially ZERO fit senior defenders with experience: Leon King is obviously still green and learning his trade, while James Sands is a midfielder by trade.

This is an unmitigated disaster and Rangers now have to figure out how to sort this one out ASAP.

The loss to Liverpool last night was far more damaging for what it’s left Rangers without, as opposed to the scoreline.

Not great.

  1. Connor Goldson is a huge loss to Rangers. He’s far and away the best centre half we have now and had for some time. Ibrox Noise continually slated Goldson which I felt was unjustified. I thought last week at Liverpool he was excellent. He was commanding but more importantly we saw him organising the defence, helping King and Davies. Thats what we’ll really miss. I said when the transfer window closed and we hadn’t brought in cover for him and Tav it was a big mistake. I’m really worried for the games coming up.
