Fashion Sakala has a big Rangers chance – don’t blow it

If there’s one thing Rangers fans are great at (ok there’s a few really), it’s overreacting.

And yesterday’s uncharacteristically impressive display from Fashion Sakala Jnr has led to a LOT of it, with a lot of supporters considering him the best forward Rangers have ever had.

Ok, it’s not that extreme, but a very decent performance from the Zambian in what was comfortably his best display in the shirt, against a surprisingly tepid St Mirren, has led to the predictable ‘I knew he was a player’ reactions from folks who 48 hours ago couldn’t have driven him to the airport fast enough.

Sorry, but we’re not joining that gaggle of sycophants quite yet – but we are delighted to see fans giving a Rangers player some support given the torrid time he’s had at Ibrox since he joined.

Few players have been more scathingly slated that the former Oostende player, and while we’re among those who have hardly praised him, we are happy to see him have a moment in the sun.

See, we’d love him to prove us wrong, but one swallow does not a summer make.

In the same way fans always tell Ibrox Noise off for overreacting when a new signing impresses, or very much does not, we are telling many of you off for doing the same over a singular good display from a player who up till now has been a bit of a joke.

We want him to maintain this, to prove us totally wrong in doubting him, and give his manager a real and serious option up front.

Sakala was great yesterday, but St Mirren were truly abysmal – we didn’t see such an insipid display from a Stephen Robinson-coached third-placed side coming at all.

The Zambian needs to keep this level up, make us say ‘Ryan who’ and prove he’s truly good enough long term to be in our shirt.

The chance is there for him, the door wide open – up to him to take it and walk through.

  1. He is still a joke of a player and he would not make it onto the subs bench if l was manager, he is an honest player but just not Rangers quality, hope some team puts in an offer for him and he gets snapped up
