Today’s Alfredo Morelos shocker is exactly what we didn’t need on the eve of the most important match in Rangers’ recent history.

Instead of focusing purely on a colossal night ahead of us, one we are already distant outsiders to prevail in, we instead find ourselves looking at the club dropping Morelos thanks to his absolutely disgraceful conduct at the weekend. And that undermines our endeavours tomorrow even more.

We’re not even going to argue that it’s clear his time at Ibrox is up, because we’ve said that many times before and he’s still here.

Alfredo Morelos, aside Tavernier and Ryan Jack, is the long-serving first team player at the club, so we’re not taking anything for granted with regards him being sold.

But Gio has made his biggest decision yet as Rangers manager by dropping the Colombian, with the support of other senior players.

There is no question Morelos wants to leave Rangers. We guess we were wrong over the Champions League angle, albeit we did present that as our conjecture. That may well apply to Ryan Kent, but Morelos is emotionally and mentally done.

The question now is the sale.

Rangers are quite open now to the sale of the Colombian, given what we’re understanding – the line we’re getting is he still has a future at Ibrox if he proves his attitude and commitment.

But he’s already shown at Easter Road a lack of both.

Rangers haven’t actually missed Morelos this season – we thought we would, but we’ve adapted well to our new star striker, even if defence has been poor.

And Morelos is critically dropped to face PSV.

Gio has made a big statement – there can surely be no way back now for the Colombian.
