Tomorrow Rangers don’t win a CL spot and £40M, but they sure as heck could lose them.
Union Saint, who will only bring 50% of their potential allocation to Ibrox, stand between the Famous and a playoff final with either Monaco or PSV, and while the first leg was an absolute disaster, as we’ve said before, Rangers and Gio away from home in Europe has never been anything other than a fail.
So, like Celtic all those years ago in the 00s in the CL, we’re imperious at home but utterly vulnerable on our travels.
Except, of course, at Haaland-less Dortmund (let’s face it, if he’d been fit we’d have stood no chance).
Nevertheless, the tables turn on our own patch.
At home Ibrox is a fortress for visiting European sides, with very few able to take wins away, and only a select few managing draws.
And that 12th man, that colossal Rangers support in Govan will be needed again for Rangers to show up, put on a gritty performance and secure passage to the final round.
Make no mistake, Rangers are 100% capable of winning 3-0 or even more against a side who are far from great.
Union were quite ordinary in Belgium, which makes Rangers’ dire display even more galling.
And that has every chance of being completely reversed tomorrow.
But Gio needs to get the team and tactics right, and we sure have faith in him doing so after all the errors last Tuesday.
The CL and £40M rests on the Dutchman getting it spot on tomorrow night.
As well as the players giving everything they have.
We expect no less.
