Is it time for Rangers to trust Alex Lowry?

It really could be Alex Lowry’s time now.

Rangers have just sold, give or take 24 hours or so, our main creative influence, our fulcrum this whole season past.

Many would argue Joe Aribo was our most important player, if not our best, due to the reality of how Steven Gerrard then Giovanni have built Rangers’ entire team around him.

Being the most selected player in world football last season is testament to his importance, but in reality again, it’s not so much how important Aribo was, but how his place in the system was.

See, Gio relies on a 10, a playmaker, a player who can pass, dribble, and score.

In fairness, Aribo wasn’t the best at the latter, but he was good at maintaining the ball in the last third.

As of right now, with him imminently sold, Rangers have absolutely no 10. No playmaker in that advanced role – Ianis Hagi is not back till September or October, and Scott Arfield isn’t the right kind of player.

But Alex Lowry is.

Aribo’s sale opens the floodgates for him at Ibrox, giving him a prize chance to cement his place in the first team.

He has absolutely shown the talent and quality, and frankly if we’re not going to give him the shot now that we almost have no other option, there’s no point him being at Ibrox and signing that new deal.

But he did sign that new deal, didn’t he?

While it might be folly to throw him into the deep end and expect consistent 90 minutes from a green 19-year old, it also might not.

He did his apprenticeship last season, and did very well indeed – with no other fit 10 available now, Lowry has a slightly unexpected opening in front of him.

Will Gio go for it?

We hope so. It would be good to see Lowry trusted. But then, Gio knows better than us if the lad can be.

But it’s down to those two.

Time will tell if it is indeed Alex Lowry’s Time.
