Rangers fans are today mildly concerned after Rabbi Matondo had to miss fully participating in yesterday’s open training session through precaution and will be scanned.

It is not thought to be serious, but it was serious enough that the already fan-favourite had to miss the MyGers fan festival in order that Rangers can get a full read on it.

It gives some idea of how impressive he’s been even in preseason and how badly Gio and Rangers needed a right winger that the notion of the Wales international being injured would be a massive blow already and we certainly hope it’s not the case.

Livi of course is well known as a dodgy surface as well as a very physical team, albeit not as much under Martindale as they were under Gary Holt, so we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Matondo spared this one to keep him in one piece for the trip to Belgium.

But nevertheless the idea of a player who has in so few friendlies already elevated himself to ‘star performer’ being unavailable for the very start of the season is not exactly ideal.

Hopefully he will be absolutely fine.
