Rangers fans have two new heroes tonight after stunning debut cameos from both Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence.

Following a poor first-half display from Scott Wright especially, Lawrence was placed centrally while Matondo replaced the Scot directly, and the impact was immediate as the Wales international ripped down the right and set up the Wales international for a wonderful Wales international goal!

Lawrence showed nous, positional awareness, speed of thought and maturity, demonstrating why Gio worked hard to acquire this lucrative free agent, while his club and national team colleague absolutely tore up the right wing and showed not only how quick he was but how much potential he has.

We’ll discuss the ex-Derby man in another piece, but the former Schalke and Genk winger lit Ibrox up with just how much potential he has.

As regulars will know, we were pleased with his cameo in Blackpool, as he showed pace and a surprising level of upper body strength to excel, and even could have scored at Bloomfield.

On Tuesday night he went one better, while also showing Gio could just have unearthed an absolute gem.

This kid has not only got blistering pace, but he also backed it up with a surprisingly composed touch and tight dribbling – he is also able to look up and pick out his options, rather than running into a blind alley like Fashion Sakala would.

Indeed, with Matondo on board, while this ‘was only a friendly’ he showed the potential that if he can produce that level of pace, power and maturity as well as vision in competitive meaningful matches, Rangers have just bagged a bargain at just £2M.

A fine start, now keep it up!
