Reports from Spain claiming Villarreal are now in the hunt for Alfredo Morelos are exactly the same as the ones which first surfaced a few weeks ago involving Sevilla.

The entire report is odds-based, and is simply telling the reader the various clubs’ odds for signing the Colombian.

Favourites are currently Aston Villa, apparently, with Palace, Villarreal, Sevilla and Everton all in the running.

There’s no question Morelos is a desired player, but that in five years we have received just two actual bids for him (Fenerbahce and their £2.5M loan bid and Lille with a £16.5M bid) says a lot about who has actually put their money where their mouth is.

Morelos himself is happy to stay, happy to go – ever since around two years ago, the Colombian has stopped talking up a move to the PL and has got his head down.

But his name has been used incessantly for traffic and this is another example of it.

Did Sevilla make a bid? No. They didn’t. In fact, aside speculation Morelos isn’t averse to a move there, there’s no evidence they’re even interested.

This is the same in Villarreal’s case – they’ve been added to the odds list in order to gain more bets, and so many of these are the way the bookies make their cash.

Morelos will never stop being used as click bait and bet bait.

And that’s really all we can say about it.
