Ah, the Scottish Cup. A competition which has brought much in the sense of frustration to Rangers in recent years and little in the sense of glory.

With our last three campaigns bringing quarter-final humiliation under now Aston Villa gaffer Steven Gerrard, and results not worth speaking about before the Scouser’s time at Ibrox, the primary domestic cup competition of Scotland hasn’t been a great friend of the Ibrox faithful.

However, could Giovanni Van Bronckhorst be the man to change that? The Dutchman’s time so far at Ibrox has certainly been a mixed bag, with the highs of European glory being evened out by the occasional frustration of the league. Gio is clearly learning more on the job though, and Rangers fans can still be excited about the prospect of either competitions.

So why not the Scottish too? The gaffer has cooked up three comfortable wins out of three, granted they were against Stirling Albion, Annan and league strugglers Dundee, but he has already booked Rangers’ place at Hampden Park in the contest, which is more than Gerrard can say in his appalling experience of the fiery cup competition.

GVB has definitely paved a way to be the man to end Rangers’ Scottish Cup blues. He has already shown a skill for knockout style matches, eliminating the favourites for the Europa League and claiming a big first-leg victory over Serbian outfit, Red Star Belgrade, so why can’t he do it? It’ll be two tough matches if Rangers do lift the cup, with the semi-final against Celtic destined to be the match where Gio’s side can prove their Scottish Cup worth. However, if he can put Celtic to the sword, then Rangers fans can certainly hope to finally add another Scottish Cup to the long list of club honours.

With the title race as fiery as ever, and European Rangers allowing ‘Gers fans to dream, go on Gio, throw in a domestic cup competition for us, eh?
