Return of the Jack – Rangers to get massive boost

If there was one big, big salvage from Wednesday night’s debacle in Parkhead, it was the possibly the most popular player return we’ve seen in recent times in the form of the spectacular second-half cameo from Ryan Jack.

The stalwart titan of midfield, finally back fit after a torrid time with injury the past year, lit the pitch up as one of the only real performers from the visiting side, and showed Rangers fans exactly what we’ve missed the last 12 months.

There is NO coincidence Rangers’ defence has been a lot leakier in Jack’s absence, no coincidence our midfield has lacked cohesion and dominance while he’s been away, and his 45 minutes on the turf showed just what a difference he can make.

Please, be in no doubt, Ryan Jack was about 75% of 55. Forget Gerrard, Tavernier, Kent, and McGregor, Jack’s incredible form till his injury in February last year saw the defence concede almost no goals at all, and we’re talking over the course of many months here.

The way Jack covered for Tavernier in defence (whose attacking stats ended up stupendous), the way he supported attack, the way he kept midfield ticking – he made everyone else look good, and but for that cruel injury in early spring, he’d have been POTY by a mile.

There was no coincidence our form swandived after Christmas, with no Jack to cover every inch of the pitch.

And since then, despite winning 55, few could deny our form has been at best patchy and at worst poor.

The renaissance under Gio has recently tempered a bit, and form has hit the floor again.

But now, with Jack back, while we’re not saying it fixes everything, it IS a game changer. Jack is that good, that effective for Rangers, and we pray 100% he stays fit.

If you’re in doubt as to his influence…

19 SPL matches with Jack in the side last season, two goals conceded, without him, 8 conceded in 14.

He can make a BIG difference going forward.

  1. Couldn’t agree more. I’ve said since forever he was the key to everything this side wants to achieve. If we can keep him fit for the remainder of the season we’ll see a massive improvement in those around him.
