If there’s one thing that mattered at the weekend, it was Rangers winning. In the end our performance was tripe, no getting away from that.

But this team ground that win out, and Celtic caved to that.

Nothing more highlights how important that 3 beautiful points from an ugly luck-filled display was, when Celtic slipped up to Dundee’s city rivals at home.

THIS is the stuff of champions, at least, another side of champions.

Last season we won 55 pretty, we were outstanding, up till around February when it dipped.

But crucially we have an entire squad who know how to be champions now, and they are getting the critical wins at the critical times.

Yes, v Motherwell we did not win, but guess what – champion mentality won the day as results elsewhere went our way and we actually extended our lead.

And this weekend the display was even worse but the team got the giant win, a huge win, a win which has now propelled us 6 points clear of an absolutely hapless Celtic who continue to slip up and only have one point of their last 6.

Would we take this all season? We’d rather our team played better, we won’t lie. But winning is the bottom line, and while it wasn’t convincing, it was still a win.

And Celtic’s lost two points made it even bigger, a huge win.

It could be the moment, this early in the season, that wins Rangers 56. Long way to go of course, but as unimpressive as Rangers are, we’re winning when it truly counts.

Celtic aren’t.

And that’s the difference.
