The BBC have given an accidental slip into an internal ‘contradiction’ after they reported on Rangers’ CL draw very differently depending on which part of the country you were looking at/from.
As per usual BBC Scotland highlighted Celtic’s draw and fielded a bunch of negative Rangers stories, just to use their usual anti-Rangers angle, but the national version of the Beeb was far more favourable, highlighting only Rangers’ draw and fielding none of the negative stories.
It’s an interesting and subtle look at a corporation whose Scottish HQ is clearly against Rangers, but which might not be shared to the same extent over the whole UK, if indeed at all.
The English-based Beeb was at pains to put Rangers’ draw on the front page, and reported it with no negative stories covering the same page, while Pacific Quay had to get the Celtic oar in while, as you can see, deliberately omitting Steven Gerrard’s picture from a montage of Scottish managers.
It definitely shows the possibility that England-wise, Rangers are not as castigated by Auntie as they are up north, and of course this applies to the rest of the Beeb’s UK coverage.
It’s certainly infinitely worse in this country, and while this example is subtle, it’s clear.
