Rangers have been again linked with FC Cologne (or Koln) midfielder Salih Ozcan putting a spot of doubt over Glen Kamara and setting up a potential contingency plan for his departure.
The German midfielder, 23, plays pretty much in the same central midfield slot Kamara does, but with attacking attributes as well, and has 28 Bundesliga outings this season.
He isn’t yet capped by his country at senior level, but has 59 youth caps at all levels for Germany and may be ready to make the step up to full national level fairly soon, but Rangers’ interest in the £5M rated player could have implications for Rangers’ Finn.
That all said, Rangers certainly need quality new players this summer for the CL regardless of who’s leaving and Ozcan definitely fits the bill.
The former Holstein Keil man’s big downside, though, is that aside the Bundesliga and youth caps for his country he has little variety in his club experience – which is to say, nothing in European competition and nothing at a different level aside Bundeslia and youth competitions.
He isn’t terribly well-travelled and Rangers bringing in such an inexperienced player would be a risk.
But then that’s why the scouting team and Stevie get paid the big bucks and morons like us just scribe about it.
