Rangers fans have taken to social media to express disappointment at the lack of Hollywood name in the latest player linked with a move to Ibrox.

Morecambe’s Carlos Mendes Gomes, a 22-year old winger, is on Rangers’ radar and some fans haven’t been particularly thrilled with the calibre of ‘star’ being sought.

However, following the success of players like Glen Kamara, Borna Barisic, Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo, it’s safe to say just because a player is at a low level, doesn’t mean he’s not great.

Looking at Gomes’ numbers, while League Two isn’t quite the Champions League, his stats make for good reading. 12 goals in 37 appearances for a winger isn’t bad, and bear in mind the lower leagues in England are probably the best lower leagues in world football.

His assists are a little underwhelming this campaign at just one, but the crucial attribute of Gomes is his versatility. He literally plays anywhere in the front 6, aside defensive midfield.

The kid is flexible alright, and scores in every position as well.

A Morecambe graduate, his performances have definitely not gone unnoticed, and Rangers’ attentions are not without merit.

Just because a target isn’t in the Champions League or winning the world cup doesn’t make them worthless.

Steven Gerrard and his team have earned our blind faith after the last three years, especially this campaign, and if they think a one-legged donkey with an eye patch and banjo is a good signing, we go with that.

Give him a chance.

  1. Think I said as much a few days ago. The signing of Wright should really tell everyone that although it’s hardly a glamorous signing and not necessarily what the fans wanted to see, when you’ve seen him in the shirt you realise that talent is everywhere and if these deals come good, as a club, we are quids in. We’ve caught Celtic on a shoestring budget by comparison, yet the value of our squad has sky rocketed.

  2. Our team is packed with players who raised a few eyebrows when their name was first suggested so I have faith in the management team to find the right players. It’s a good model financially and it hasn’t held us up on the pitch.

  3. It would be nice to get a big name through thhe doors. I think we need that name to show we are still an attraction.
