And on the subject of Leon Balogun, his contract extension was the worst-kept secret at Ibrox.

It was a matter of fact the big Nigerian was staying on for another year, even if he wants to play his career out in Germany.

He’s said all the right things since joining, definitely becoming an adopted Bear, but we hope the salary isn’t too high because the lad is an injury issue.

The extension is reasonable – we have no issue with it. He’s not a player we believe fans are in love with, but there’s a healthy respect for him, and he’s put in some good shifts in our shirt.

He has, sadly, been unable to reproduce his old good form as RB though, making Nathan Patterson essential, but as CB Balogun has been mostly very decent, with the occasional hairy moment.

As depth he’s very good – as long as we can keep him fit, of course – and with 19 appearances in the SPL since he joined, he’s mostly managed to keep those issues under control, as a non-guaranteed starter.

And as a bench support act or irregular starter, he’s been useful.

The lad is good in the air, and has a lot of pace. He lacks Filip Helander’s positional read and his brute-force blocks and tackling-style defending, but he uses what attributes he has well.

He doesn’t, however, have quite the partnership with Goldson that Helander does – but given both have cycled between the shirt all season, that one is subjective.

Either way, it’s a useful addition, good experience and he’s an intelligent guy who helps lead the others.

Work for next season continues and Balogun is the latest piece of that puzzle.
