Media attack Rangers as key assets get ‘pawned’…

15 international caps, six Champions League appearances, 84 outings in Serie A, 94 career outings for Malmo, a Euros this summer with his country and three league winners medals with Rangers and the Swedish giants.

And the nonsense which is spreading like wildfire claims that Rangers seek just £6M for Filip Helander?!

Football Insider are starting to really annoy us – bringing in absolute hogwash and portraying it as fact.

They have now made a complete pile of piffle about how Rangers, just like every other club on planet earth, have made a financial loss of match day ticketing and revenue, and this loss will ‘force’ the club into a sale of the Swedish international.

First they bring in former Aberdeen man Noel Whelan to make his opinion on it ‘fact’, then he says Rangers will have to sell the defender for £6M because of the financial loss of match days.

Let’s be clear – Rangers almost certainly WILL sell at least one, maybe even two key asset players this summer – it is correct that we’ve made a loss due to matchdays.

But it is complete gutter journalism to say Rangers more than anyone else will pawn off our most valuable players to seal up that loss.

Rangers have secured extra revenue this season through UEL and winning the SPL – and potentially up to £50M will be coming in over the course of the year should the club get to the CL group stage.

So to hawk Helander off at just £6M is just completely gibberish from a press desperate to use our club for traffic.

His real value? Well, we opened with his CV, and we have no ‘need’ to sell him, so combine the two and you’ve got a player well into the £12M range if not more.

Celtic sold Van Dijk, who only had around half the caps for Holland Helander has for Sweden, for £12M in 2016 and the same number of UCL outings, why the blazes would we accept much less?

No, the media keep encouraging low sums to surround our players, and frankly we aren’t having any of it.

  1. It’ll get worse unfortunately as we have really shown how much quality we now have in our squad and that they will be wanted at various levels and leagues. I hope we manage this properly to ensure we get real value and also good replacements.
