As we said earlier, Stevie G has picked out a rash of changes for the visit of Motherwell in a critical must-win match (aren’t they all).

The most crucial aspect to note is this is, arguably Morelos aside, Rangers’ strongest-possible XI.

Which is therefore telling as to what players Steven Gerrard does not consider the best.

There’s no Joe Aribo, as the big Nigerian, who just hasn’t hit the heights in recent weeks, drops to the bench.

Calvin Bassey unsurprisingly loses his place to the infinitely-superior Borna Barisic, and while there was no real option in the selection of Filip Helander, the Swede is most definitely the best defender aside Goldson.

Zungu goes to the bench, which is also no real surprise, but Itten loses his place too, with Defoe being preferred.

Of course there’s no Jack, given he’s injured, but we’re not sure he’d start over either Davis or Kamara.

In a critical, essential, crucial (did we mention it was important) must-win game, it’s very interesting to see who our manager trusts to deliver and who not to.

This is Steven Gerrard’s best XI, and while there’s quality on the bench that can make an impact if need be, it’s those eleven men he trusts the most to bounce back after the disappointment of midweek.

He’s made a big statement here, and shown who he trusts.

Up to them to show it’s well-founded faith.
