Steven Gerrard has confirmed today that Ryan Jack is set to miss further matches, after being unable to verify exactly when the holding midfielder will be back.

Jack suffered a calf injury recently, or a recurrence, indeed, and has missed a number of matches again through that, but the manager admitted that he’ll miss Motherwell and can’t really put a time scale on him other than suggesting he’s ‘close’.

Stopping short of a ‘week to ten days’, Stevie clearly hopes there’s a slim chance of having Jack back before the turn of the year, but we could be looking at January before the ex-Aberdeen man is fully available again.

Some outlets are harshly calling him Jordan Rossiter 2.0, but we will concede Jack has now got major injury concerns, which sadly we suggested earlier in the summer, which would lead to him not being a total regular this season.

And it’s bearing out.

Jack’s fitness is a bit of an issue, but with careful management his absences can be minimised.

Thankfully Rangers have a lot of quality depth in his position anyway.

  1. We need to wrap this fella in cotton wool. The job he does in the middle of the park for us is simply just not covered 100% by any of his direct replacements, despite them all being terrific players. We’ve yet to concede a goal at home with him in the side this season. That alone shows his worth to this system.
