In-demand superstar Borna Barisic, on top of demonstrating his impressive singing skills, has admitted the interest from Roma is real, and that it is ‘nice’.
The 27-year old is in the form of his life, and his qualities were never more highlighted than by Andy Halliday’s wretched match in his place last night, showing Rangers just what a player we now have on the ex-Osijek man, and while he admitted he’s ‘happy’ at Rangers and wants to win the cup and league here, the fact his performances have alerted ‘big clubs’ to him is something he likes.
It might not be quite the swatting away of interest that Rangers fans would have wanted from the Croat, and suggests he is certainly enjoying the attention, but then most players do admit to being flattered by other clubs being interested in their signature.
For what it’s worth, Roma are having a reasonable season, following similar last season, and seem to be, over the past two campaigns, Italy’s 6th best side, currently sitting at 5th at present with no real ambitions of making the Champions League.
In truth they’re a big team, but not a lot bigger than Rangers if at all, and their average attendance is generally about 30K at the Stadio Olimpico.
And if Barisic left for Roma, it would mostly be a money move – which we can’t exactly blame him for.
But yes, the interest is real, he is flattered by it, and doesn’t do a lot to rebuke it.
But we know he’s happy at Ibrox so hopefully he will sign a new deal and that will the end of it.
Till summer anyway.
