Seven-player Ibrox cull effectively confirmed with new name announced...

In a previous entry we confirmed at least seven players headed for the exit door at Ibrox, and in another we strongly reaffirmed a specific one of those seven – today’s reports corroborate that story and reveal Jordan Rossiter, claimed by some misguided tabloids to be ‘resting’, is indeed the latest name to be told to find a new club.

We knew the reports of an extended rest were poppycock, and did exclude Rossiter in our projections for the club going forward, but it’s evident that while he had a fine half season at Bury, that was Bury. League Two. Rangers have too much competition and strength in Rossiter’s position for his place at Ibrox to be anything other than untenable and his exclusion from the flight to Portugal was the biggest indictment of his future at Rangers.

He joins Graham Dorrans, Eros Grezda, Ryan Hardie, Joe Dodoo, Kyle Lafferty, and Jason Holt in being rejected by Steven Gerrard, so far, and while it is a shame to see some of these names being told their time in Govan is up, it’s the kind of ruthlessness we need to go forward.

We set high standards at this club, and despite it not being his fault, Rossiter got three years to prove himself, to cut it – sadly for him, in the eyes of his current manager, he’s failed. Even though he sustained fitness at Bury, time was against him and Gerrard wasn’t going to wait six months to decide whether or not to build more depth in midfield based on Rossiter’s credentials.

Now the depth in that area is just stunning and much more in keeping with the level Rangers should have.

We expect a few more names to be added to the outgoing, which, let’s not forget, has been far less than the incoming this window.

  1. One positive out of the names that seem to be getting released is the exclusion of Greg Docherty (and Ross McCrorie). With the influx of midfielders there were rumors Greg could be released and possibly also Ross. I for one will be glad if the window closes and we still have these 2 guys on the books.

  2. We should have someone out there offering to loan these players with option to buy, playing for other teams in Scotland but not against rangers has worked well for other teams and players.
