Reports of a number of weeks ago claimed new signing Jake Hastie would be immediately going out on loan having only just arrived from Motherwell.
A national red-top made the surprise allegation only a number of days after the winger joined the ranks of Rangers, and we had to admit we were completely flummoxed by the claim.
However, going by the latest content on Rangers’ official site and Hastie’s own testimony, not only did Hastie travel to Portugal with the rest of the relevant squad, but his quotes imply strongly he isn’t going anywhere on loan and will be fighting for his place in Steven Gerrard’s first team this season.
Hastie’s words are very clear:
“It is something I am really looking forward to, especially at Ibrox with the atmosphere there and the fans – it is going to blow me away. It means the world to me and I am absolutely buzzing to be here. I have worked hard when I was at Motherwell and now I am delighted to be here.”
It just doesn’t sound like the words of a man who’s preparing to go out on loan anywhere else, nor does the fact that Rangers chose this content to feature prominently on the official home page.
If Hastie’s prospects this season were to get minutes somewhere else, why on earth feature his smiling face so explicitly on the official site with his comments about being so happy to be at Ibrox and looking forward to it?
No, we suspect Hastie is here to fight for a place, not to go immediately back out on loan.
And we hope he proves himself worthy of that.
