Rangers working on £7M bids for multiple defenders

If recent information is anything to go by, Rangers have submitted a third and final bid for Brighton’s Connor Goldson, with Albion said to be looking for a total package of around £3M.

Rangers are unlikely to meet that fully for a player who has not been part of their first team recently (only made three league appearances last season), but the hopes are Brighton will compromise on the value and sell for a little less, especially given the market value is circa £1M.

Meanwhile Rangers continue to be heavily linked with a move for Swansea’s Kyle Bartley, in essentially two transfer deals that would please a great number of Rangers fans.

For his part Bartley is valued in the range of £4M at the Swans, and has developed a great deal since his Rangers/Arsenal days as a youth, albeit it is worth noting the 27-year old has failed to hold anything like a first team place down at EPL Swansea, either not being in favour or being injured.

He found more success in the Championship, where a fellow rival for his signature, Leeds, enjoyed his services on loan in recent times.

So if Rangers bid for him too, we could be looking at a-near £7M submission for the pair.

Nevertheless, following the failure on Martin Skrtel, these two are prime candidates along with West Ham’s James Collins (who would be a free) as potential defensive signings for new manager Steven Gerrard.

It is good to see so many big strong defenders being linked with Rangers after the calamities of rearguard signings in recent years.

  1. Both connor goldson and kyle bartley would be good signings for us!I'm still a fan of big bruno alves, and WHY sign another mid 30 experienced centre half when we have one, with still a year left to run,on his rangers contract!I wanted us to try and sign stoke city centre half ryan shawcross, who i rate highly!

  2. At least we know that the defence will be better. I’d like to get Bartley most of all. He’s been here and done it before. Would be a good signing and might be able to play alongside Alves if he remains

  3. Brighton seem to be moving the goalposts for Goldson but I’d like to see us get this one over the line. Important for Gerrard to feel that the Board are capable of going out and securing the players he wants. I suspect however that Gerrards profile means that every club/agent is going to up the price when Rangers come calling. Hopefully Stevie has identified some targets from some of Europe’s lesser profile league’s as there is little value to be had in shopping in England.

  6. Ibrox noise ? I love this site and love the way you put debates up to discuss . We will probably pay 5m tops for 3 players , rest will be frees and loanees . King has played a blinder here , season tickets sales have went well , you will transparencybe called upon next year to buy season tickets . Apparently we made £4 bid for mcburnie ? Swansea have said we haven't contacted them , it's gonna be a long season , king will be in south Africa sunning himself in his multi million pound wine cellar. Says it all when your chairman goes to 3 times more Liverpool games than gers games .

  7. I think that there is an awful lot of speculation and very little factual information flying around. SG hasn't started yet so let's wait and see what develops, who arrives and, probably equally important, who goes. I can't imagine it can get a lot worse so let's ignore all of the paper talk and assume that things are on the up.

  8. You have to be kidding with the lot you mentioned in this article!

Firstly, Bartley has had two serious knee injuries during the last 10 months and played a total of 5 games of football - £4m - you having a laugh!
Goldson has a heart defect and played 3 games last season for Brighton - £3m - supposed to be third choice centre half - are you kidding?

Collins will be 36 in August!
