What do Rangers now do with Ryan Kent?

Ryan Kent’s dismissal to the Rangers bench for the first time as one of GVB’s charges on Saturday sent him a message that his rather indifferent performances this season are now ready to cost him his place at Ibrox.

And that he’s not beyond being dropped.

The only two players at Ibrox 100% immune to being dropped for bad form are Tavernier and Goldson – thankfully, Tavernier hasn’t really been in bad form to justify it anyway, while Goldson mercifully is emerging out his slumber at long last.

But Kent?

When he appeared in the second half, it was his best chance to demonstrate a hunger and fight for the jersey. Having been called out by Gio the day before, the winger just had to nail a couple of trademark moments to show he was up for it.

Unfortunately he looked as flat as a sub as he has a starter, and we’re starting to wonder if his Rangers race is run now.

The problem Gio has is his natural replacement, Tom Lawrence, is unavailable till next year, and the other options are the substandard Scott Wright, the not-quite-there yet Rabbi Matondo (who’s a right winger by trade), and Fashion Sakala (who’s clearly better on the right).

In short, there’s no one who looks ready set to steal his place, because no one at all is delivering on the left side.

After years of being blessed with an abundance of left wingers, none of whom could usurp the formerly outstanding Ryan Kent, while the right flank remained neglected, the problem has reversed.

Now the left is a problem area, while the right has Sakala, Roofe and Matondo.

Of course, there’s adaptability, but end of the day, we don’t have much depth to replace Kent adequately.

Is it a problem?

Well we’re off the back of a 4-0 drubbing of a side we expected a test from, so maybe the issue isn’t that large overall.

But it’s certainly one to watch.
