Huge defensive blow as Gio loses another Rangers man

Rangers are down to just two selectable defenders after Leon King had to be ruled out of Scotland U21 duty with a knock, meaning only Connor Goldson and James Sands are available of the entire pool at Ibrox, with just John Lundstram capable of filling in there as absolute emergency backup.

It’s a ridiculous state of affairs at Ibrox which shows just how poorly the summer window went with regards to sorting the defence out – Calvin Bassey’s exit left a big hole, and unfortunately none of the defensive additions (Ridvan, Souttar and Davies) have come close to playing a convincing 90 minutes never mind being outright solutions for the Nigerian’s exit.

But King had impressed in recent weeks, with some good cameos then managing a full debut or two as well – and now Rangers fans will be praying the injury he’s picked up on international duty isn’t too bad, but should prepare for the worst.

It only emphasises our earlier piece on his namesake Balogun, who is having an excellent time down in London with Michael Beale’s QPR, after he was released against fans’ wishes.

But these are the cards we must now deal with – just one senior outright defender (Goldson) is actually available for Giovanni, with Sands and Lundstram both midfielders by trade.

It’s a bit of a ‘mare, to tell the truth.

How long before Gio himself is putting the jersey back on…?
