Alex Lowry is to secure competition for his position in the form of USA international Malik Tillman after the Bayern playmaker underwent a medical today in Manchester, just as Rabbi Matondo did some days ago.

The 20-year old attacking midfielder is an urgent replacement (on loan) for both Joe Aribo and Ianis Hagi, after the former was sold and the latter ruled out till February or beyond.

We were curious about the fact he’s barely a year older than Lowry, and we wondered if a more senior option was prudent, but he will provide competition for the 10 slot which became urgently thin the past 10 days.

His career record is that of a developing player, he’s managed four appearances for the senior Bayern side but has spent the bulk in the youths and the B team – he isn’t quite Kaka yet, but does have a few caps for his country.

With just 2 weeks to now go until the SPL and UCL begins, Rangers certainly needed someone in his position – is he the marquee addition we’d maybe have hoped for of the calibre of Aribo or Hagi?

Well, we wouldn’t judge on that level given a certain Calvin Bassey came to us a boy on the fringes and is now a man the club’s star player with a £30M price on his head.

Tillman, like all signings, gets our complete support.
