An unofficial Schalke news account has tonight claimed Rangers have signed Rabbi Matondo.

To get straight to it:

“Rabbi Matondo has joined Glasgow Rangers for a transfer fee of €3m. Only the official announcement is still pending.”

We don’t know how accurate this account is generally, how reliable it is, but by all accounts the signing of the Wales international does seem to have completed and now we all await the official confirmation.

Matondo would be Rangers’ fourth signing this window, on top of Souttar, Colak and Tom Lawrence and it is hoped the Brugges loanee would finally sow up that problem area of right wing which has dogged the club for years.

Aged just 21, it’s said he was on a salary in Germany of around £50,000, which means an impressive wage cut to come to Rangers, meaning further that he’s making the move purely for football reasons, which is a rare thing.

But this is slightly speculative.

What we do know is he’s close, and it could be a nice bonus for Rangers fans on Monday to see the winger announced by the club.
