Steven Gerrard ‘confirms’ Rangers man’s career is over

Steven Gerrard has confirmed today, despite Rangers’ fans wishes, that Lee Wallace will not play for him unless all his rivals get injured or suspended.

At today’s AGM, Rangers’ manager addressed the issue of Wallace’s treatment, and defended the club’s position and handling of the fallout, and equally stated that he has ‘better options’ for left back, meaning Ibrox Noise’s poll which saw 87% of fans wanting the ex-captain back in the side will not see fruition.

Gerrard said:

“I have to pay my respects to Lee in terms of his professionalism while he’s been injured and the hard work he’s put in trying to get match fit. But at the moment, to be really candid, he’s still part of the plans while he’s here but I have better options in that position.”

So, it is Gerrard’s contention that Halliday and Flanagan are better options despite neither being a left back.

We really do wonder if club politics are in play here – few could make a claim with a straight face that Andy Halliday is a better left back than Lee Wallace, and even Jon Flanagan struggles to convince that he is.

Barisic of course probably (hopefully) is but he’s only one man and Gerrard referred to plural options.

But it’s now become crystal clear that Lee Wallace’s Rangers career is over.

  1. Got to be politics because it was an utterly ridiculous claim to say Halliday and Flanagan are better than our former captain who is a natural left back! If Gerrard really believes that then I'm really worried!

    • Couldn't agree with you more Stevie … that is a baffling statement from Gerrard … the truth will out eventually on the disgraceful way these two Rangers men have been treated, but even so for Gerrard to say that Halliday and that zoomers Flanagan are better left backs than Lee Wallace is to say the least worrying.

  2. I bet that 'nae-user' Carlos Pena, figures in his plans, though. I'm sticking with SG. With the program, just saying. Pena, must go.

  3. Since when did lee wallace become roberto carlos?he stuck with us because he was on good money for playing pub football, not for any other reason.ridiculously overrated player who was shit when mccoist signed him for an inflated fee of 1.5m, never mind now.

    • Slightly ridiculous reaction RWB, no one exalts him as world class. But you evidently think a Scotland international with plenty SPL experience is a waster. Which we have to argue is extremely unfair and frankly inaccurate.

    • Not saying he is or was Roberto Carlos. saying he stood by the club. As IN state, a current Scotland international can earn more in England than Rangers are going to pay him. Wallace is loved for the reason the traitors are despised. He stayed. End of.

  4. I think people need to read between the lines. "Wallace is out" was the message. I don't agree with it, but then I don't know what happened in the fallout with Murty. until someone who does talks, nobody knows
Which leaves two options. Side with Gerrard, King, Murty and Rangers Football Club, or side with Wallace. I wish I didn't have to pick a side, because I will always remember Wallace stood by us when others ran. But I cannot pick one man over the club. The club is bigger than any one man. Sorry Lee

    • You’re right SWH, it is. Yet clearly one man came out of this with club backing and his job, plus a ‘man of the year’ rating, suggesting he IS bigger than the club.

    • IN, it looks like Murty has come out of this with the club's backing. Which makes him bigger than Wallace in the eyes of the club. It doesn't make him bigger than the club, or he would have been speaking, not King.

King is no fool. I don't know what happened, neither do many others. But I suspect King has spoken to all sides and neutral witnesses before making his choice, then deciding what is best for the club, not Murty or Wallace.
I have always liked Wallace and will always thank him for standing by us. But I cannot help feel his time is up.

  5. he does on one side that tav does on the other that must be a plus he is ten times beter than the other too put together

  6. Football is a matter of opinion and Gerrard MAY hold the opinion that Lee Wallace isn't good enough but that to me seems unlikely. Wallace is clearly a better full back than Halliday and is a better attacking FB than Flanagan, though probably not defensively. Something else must be at play here but unless someone from the club explains why we just have to accept that the manager just doesn't rate him. If Wallace was being punished I suspect he wouldn't be training with the first team.
