Apparent player ‘dead deal’ back on for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers

Reports recently from the Daily Express that Angers midfielder Lassana Coulibaly had changed his mind and elected for French Ligue 2 side Metz appear to have been considerably wide of the mark after subsequent reports from The Sun and the Scotsman confirmed earlier claims and reaffirmed over the past 24 hours that the Malian international is still waiting on his work permit and Rangers are his number one target.

The 22-year old midfielder was connected with a loan move to Ibrox but a number of reports suggested he had changed his ambitions to the lower league French outfit – it appears that was not accurate and Rangers’ options in creative midfield are set to be increased this week assuming the ex-Bastia man’s UK work permit (as an African national) comes through.

Meanwhile Rangers continue to wait for fellow African (Nigerian in his case) Umar Sadiq’s own permit too, and hopes are high that both these loans can ratified by the time Rangers take the field on Thursday to face Shkupi – while Friday’s UEL deadline has long-since passed, teams in said competition are allowed two wildcard entries – and in Rangers’ case that would be Sadiq and Coulibaly.

Hopefully these deals get over the line in time.
