Steven Gerrard’s vital race against European deadline

Steven Gerrard has until midnight tomorrow to finalise his squad for next week’s Europa League first qualifying round clash with Macedonians Shkupi.

The July 6 at 24:00 hours deadline is the latest point at which a new player can be formally confirmed a Rangers player and be eligible to take the field next Thursday as European action gets underway in earnest.

Rangers have been linked with a third centre back, Jake Cooper, Malian Lassana Coulibaly, striker Umar Sadiq, Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe and one or two others but none will be able to line up in the Light Blue shirt a week today if the deals cannot be completed by the time the clock strikes midnight.

Currently as things stand the squad in its present form should still have enough to get past the fourth placed Macedonian outfit, but nevertheless, Steven Gerrard will want to have as much quality at his disposal as possible and if that means fast-tracking a deal today to give extra depth, it may well happen.

If not, he must deal with the hand he currently has, which is lacking striker wise and is slightly thin CB wise.

It should still be sufficient, but tomorrow’s friendly v Bury is a very good field test for Gerrard’s men in lieu of the match six days later.

I Predict another 3-1 against Bury

I Predict 4-0/5-0 against Shkupi at Home and 3-1 in Macedonia 😀
