At last the season is over, with thoughts now turning to next season and the challenges that lie ahead.

This season is one which most fans will want to forget, as there’s very few positives to take away from the campaign.

However here are a few –

It’s gong to be an interesting four weeks before pre-season starts, and just how many will join Kieran Dowell before this date?

The priority next season has to be winning the league, no doubt in my mind that this needs to be won. Europe is great in terms of exposure for the club as a whole, but sometimes it can have a negative effect on the squad. You only have to look at how the poor performances in the UCL had an effect on the team.

Bear in mind that our neighbours across the city will go straight into the UCL along with guaranteed millions that this brings in, so do we aim for the same for just the money that it brings? Or would we be happy to drop into the UEL as this might be more our level in terms of competing? This season was great to qualify for the UCL proper, that that excitement was quickly taken away after getting spanked game after game, and then being labelled as the worst-ever UCL team. Do we want the same to happen again, or is there more confidence (based on the signings of Raskin & Cantwell) that we would be able to give a better account of ourselves?

I have to be honest, I missed the Thursday night European games after having them for a number of seasons under Gerrard & GVB, felt as if there was something missing after New Year. There was a level of anticipation with these games, as I always felt that we had a chance of winning – whereas this season I was happy to be along for the ride, but do I want the same experience again this season, not really.

Suppose will depend on the players that we sign during the close season.

But it will be interesting to hear what the fans would want to see European wise – as the priority above all else is winning the league.
