Rangers hit with shock new Nicolas Raskin injury blow

Rangers, after finally coming out of most of the injury hole the side have been in this season, have been hit by a very untimely setback with the news on-fire Nicolas Raskin has sustained a knock and is now a huge doubt for Motherwell and possibly more.

The outstanding young Belgian, who’s taken to Rangers and the Scottish Premiership with zero difficulty at all, has been a revelation in the role and forced former undroppable John Lundstram onto the bench, but manager Michael Beale confirmed the former Liege man is now a major issue and ‘touch and go’ at best.

It’s a bitter pill. While Rangers should have enough to overcome the Steelmen without him, it’s still far from ideal, and breaks up Rangers’ current dream midfield of Jack, himself and Todd Cantwell, which will very much be required fit for the next encounter with Celtic.

The injury curse doesn’t end there – Beale has further confirmed a couple have to miss out this weekend but didn’t specify who they are, but in slightly better news revealed Malik Tillman is now fit again.

On Nico he said:

“With Nico we’ll see how he is (on Friday). He had a bit of an issue with his quad after the game the other day, but we don’t think it is anything major. It is touch and go. We’ll see and if there is any risk it will be a no, but at the moment it is quite promising that he will be OK.”

There will also be no Borna Barisic of course, while Souttar and Ridvan are still regaining fitness with the latter expected to start this weekend, unless Beale makes good on his ‘threat’ in mentioning young Adam Devine.

Will Souttar play a role? Possibly. This is ‘must win’ (kind of, depending on where you stand re: 56) but there is room to bed recovering players back in.

But we do hope Raskin’s situation isn’t too bad and he’ll be available again for the imminent fixtures as the split fast approaches.

We want our best players available and this certainly isn’t ideal.
