We have to say the day Rangers are linked to Ellis Simms is a dark and desperate day indeed. We’ve been sitting on this story for months, but it’s been mentioned so many times now that it’s time for Ibrox Noise to take Ellis Simms to Rangers head on…

The 21-year old striker did decent for Hearts last season, no argument here. He managed 7 goals and an assist in 21 appearances, but that was only 3 goals in 12 standard SPL outings.

It’s decent and no more, but he’s been strongly connected with a move to Rangers from Everton, with Hearts wanting the lad back too.

He is past the point of being a developing player, he’s approaching 22, and a 22-year old forward with 5 in 14 in the SPL overall isn’t good enough.

Rangers fans saw how badly Kyle Lafferty failed at Ibrox despite a far better record for Hearts than Simms, so Simms’ numbers are no indication of anything really.

Remember, Hearts were third last season, and they were very good, but Simms was far from incredible. He did best during the split (2 in 5) and in the cup (2 in 4) but his overall season doesn’t scream at us as anything to shout about.

He sure doesn’t strike us as anywhere near Rangers standard.

That said, as always, if Gio really does want him, who are we to say anything to the contrary.

If he really wants him, and he’s good enough for the manager, he’s good enough for us.
