Rangers fans, for the majority, do not want Sunderland’s Ross Stewart, after the media links today claimed Rangers have made the 25-year old a priority signing to ‘potentially’ replace Alfredo Morelos.
The former Ross County hitman’s career resume is far from gleaming, and with a market value barely scraping £500,000 at present, he really isn’t the exciting name fans would want linked to the club in the event of the Colombian moving on, and responses to this story earlier on Ibrox Noise were derisory of the Scotland international joining Gio.
We can’t blame them – he’s a mediocre player who’s amounted to very little in his career – scoring one in two at League One level in England isn’t nothing to crow about, and this isn’t a Joe Aribo who’s in his early 20s and Aston Villa wanted him straight from the top of the same division.
Aribo was a case of brilliant scouting finding a hidden gem, and time has proven that correct, while Stewart is 5 years older and nowhere near the Nigerian’s level.
If he was, at his age, he’d be upper Championship or lower PL.
It’s no wonder fans are disappointed to see this calibre of player ‘credibly’ linked by ‘credible’ sources.
We’re not saying he’s rotten, we’re saying he’s not the standard we need if we’re to keep getting better.
However, as with all analysis on Ibrox Noise, we trust Gio completely, so if he really wants this guy, he can clearly see things we can’t and that’s why he’s manager.
