Five men gone as Rangers’ close season deepens

Rangers Ross Wilson

He's gone, but what is his legacy?

With preseason finally underway, Ibrox Noise wanted to take a look at the dead wood Rangers have definitely trimmed this close season.

Who’s gone, sold, freed…

Sales:

Cedric Itten:

The ‘big one’ – it didn’t work out for Ced the Ted but we got a wee bit of cash back on our £2.5M expense after selling for £1.5M to Young Boys.

Jake Hastie:

Another sale, this time to Hartleypool (see what we did there). Good luck to him but up there as one of the worst signings we’ve ever made.

Leon Balogun:

Let him go after his deal expired, Leon was a great warrior but injured way too much. We will follow him with the best wishes in his next step.

Andy Firth:

He liked Playstation.

Lewis Mayo:

A loan out to Killie, a good move for young Mayo to get a Premiership side. The club will track his progress and see how he develops.

And aside John Souttar as incoming, that is all the dead wood we’ve currently cleared.

There are still one or two on the books from the Gerrard era we need to shear – Middleton and Simpson standing out, but thankfully the bulk of his garbage we’ve got shot of.
