Rangers’ earnings today have been wildly misreported by moron UK press who want you to believe, for some reason, that the UEL earned more than the CL would have.

After a deeply misinterpreted tweet and report from respected blogger Swiss Rambler detailed his estimates for Rangers’ earnings, somehow media outlets interpreted it as a £50M windfall.

Sadly that’s not even remotely accurate, and the amount Rangers secured is indeed around £17M-£30M.

The tweet in question made a glaring typo, and the media, unable to interpret this, misreported the total:

“A few people have asked how much #RangersFC earned for reaching the Europa League final. My estimate is £17m (€19.3m) TV money. Would have got another €4m if they had won the final.”

Unfortunately SW excluded the word ‘including’ before ‘TV’.

His graph produces the real numbers and confirms TV cash was about £2M.

The final total around £17M in terms of raw prize money and TV rev, with the circa up to £15M for gate receipts taking into the £30M range.

It’s not half bad, but it’s sadly not the £50M the media are fawning about.

Still, makes a change that they lie about good news for once, isn’t it!
