In numbers: the truth behind losing Alfredo Morelos

As Ibrox Noise’s Kevin discussed, we’ll be relying on Kemar Roofe again tomorrow in the absence of Alfredo Morelos.

But what exactly is the loss this season not having the buffalo soldier up front?

He’s missed 10 games this season, mostly through callups, and when he doesn’t play, how do Rangers fare?

In the dead rubber v Lyon, we drew but played well. But it didn’t matter.

He also did not feature in the first leg v Malmo, and we lost.

In the league?

He’s missed five matches, 3 wins, one draw and a defeat.

Tellingly, the draw was the infamous County one, and the defeat was of course Celtic. And two of the wins were against Livi.

So in the matches that matter, essentially the league, his absence was not pivotal to the result, but it does have a massive impact against the better teams.

In terms of directly v Celtic?

Ever since we got ‘good’ 55 onwards, he’s only missed one match v them. And of course we brutally lost it.

But we’ve also lost to Celtic with him in the team, so while his loss will be felt, it doesn’t dictate the result.

End of the day, the tactical battle must be won to have any chance, even if he plays.

But there’s no denying we’re a better team when he does.
