For once, unlike Sky Sports, the BBC and Tom English are today gushing over Rangers, describing the arrival in the semis for the Famous as a ‘fabulous story’ among other many superlatives, discussing how our journey to the last four has been ‘great fun’ and ‘unforgettable’.

The BBC are this scribe in particular are hardly our friends, but we can’t deny a little bit of smugness when we see our enemies lavishing us with praise.

I mean, it is honest praise, Rangers deserve the plaudits, every inch of them, and many outlets are rightly providing it, but the BBC are usually the last to do so.

But even they and English are unable to look away and find themselves congratulating us.

Here’s an excerpt:

“It’s not just that Rangers have done it, it’s the way they’ve done it. If they’d parked the bus and bored their way through, fair enough. It would still have been celebrated. But they haven’t had to rely on good fortune or heroic last-ditch defending or nervy penalty shoot-outs.”

It’s a clear reference to the ‘anti-football’ we admittedly played under Sir Walter to get to Manchester – any Rangers fan who thinks that run was superior to this one is delusional. We’ve played and beaten better teams this time, and we’ve done so with style. Walter was a master, but that team was not good on the eye and it defended for its lives.

This one is just good at this level. Really, really good.

And for the BBC to recognise it shows just how good.

What a remarkable run this has been. And it continues…
