Rangers have just saved £15M after John Lundstram’s latest gigantic display for the club destroyed Celtic and demonstrated just why we signed him, and what a bargain we got.

The 28-year old came north as a lucrative Bosman, with many Sheffield fans getting in touch with Ibrox Noise to claim we were signing a dud, and after 4 months a lot of Rangers fans agreed with that notion with the term ‘donkey’ and ‘drive to the airport’ frequently used to express this.

Come April it’s all changed, and fans now recognise what Ibrox Noise told you when we signed him – that this was a £15M midfielder, that this was Steven Gerrard’s best signing yet, and that he’d be a giant for us.

Somehow, in the past month, Lunny has ended up even bigger than that, and the biggest regret we have is he didn’t get to crunch Scott Brown in his supposed pomp.

Lundstram is the midfield general Rangers fans have craved ever since Barry left, we’ve completely lacked a real powerhouse in the centre.

The closest we got was Jack, and we always expressed that as good as he was, he wasn’t a big tough midfielder who could eat opponents for breakfast.

In Lundstram, we have exactly the man we’ve needed for a very long time.

It’s not just his gigantic defending, it’s not even the hugely popular berating he gave the naïve Calvin Bassey who shockingly apologised after a foul on Sunday:

It’s the fact he can play so mesmerizingly too. His power on the ball is sublime, his ball delivery immaculate.

We haven’t had a midfielder who can do everything he can for a very long time, and he’s like the very best of a bunch of our players.

He’s got Barry’s midfield leading, barking, and power, he’s got Ryan Jack’s pressing, pushing, closing down, he’s got Steven Davis’ sumptuous ball delivery with stunning vision and tight close passing, and he’s got John Lundstram too.

He does all of these things, but he’s massive, and no one gets past him – his ability to tackle is better than most defenders we have.

He is the perfect midfield general for this club, and the way he’s pulling those strings in the middle, he’s become completely undroppable.

What a player. What a signing. Our new favourite?

Without a doubt.
