We really hope this Rangers rumour is false

James Bisgrove Rangers

Commercial genius James Bisgrove...

There are rumours floating around that Commercial Genius and the ‘Best Thing to Happen to Rangers FC in Ages’ James Bisgrove has offered his resignation.

The marketing genius who has secured countless deals since taking the reins at Ibrox provided a defence of the Old Firm friendly a few weeks ago, and the match has become the most toxic topic in our recent history dividing fans right down the middle, admittedly with the majority favouring the club pulling out of it.

Defending the decision to go Down Under, Bisgrove cited overseas derbies which have done the same thing, but emphasised that these two friendlies alone will earn more than a full season in the SPL.

Which amounts to around £6M. £3M prize money for winning/being second plus all the extra income that entails.

But reaction has been so bad to it that it’s cause a major fault line to be exposed, and there’s certainly war brewing now, which takes us ‘gloriously’ back to the Llambias days, frankly.

We’re not taking sides – we’ve seen fault from fans, groups, and the board – none of whom have carried themselves with complete distinction here.

But Bisgrove is crucial.

His work has earned Rangers a fortune and made us commercially viable with some huge companies, and while the Old Firm friendly appears to be his brainchild, he’s only thinking about the money angle.

Does he ‘get’ Rangers? Probably not – he’s a businessman and a good one, and he’s not really grasped how badly this would be received.

But we really don’t want to lose the man.

Not at all.
