Rangers’ participation in the ‘Stavros Cup’ could be axed after not only Rangers fans protested the out of touch and tone deaf announcement of our entry in it, but Celtic fans protesting the same thing.
The ‘Sydney Cup’ is to take place in November and is billed as a celebration and homecoming of Celtic’s boss Stavros, and Rangers, obviously paid, have been invited too, and accepted.
Managing Director Stewart Robertson has screwed up quite a few things over the years, with Pedro his shining moment, but accepting this offer and getting into bed with Celtic in a tournament devised FOR them is probably the topping moment.
Rangers have not held themselves in glory off the pitch since 55, with a number of bad board-level decisions and a bit of tabloid nonsense around the running of the club, but this trip down under, while probably welcomed by Australian fans, has gone ‘down under’ worse with fans and we would be shocked now if it takes place.
Neither set of fans wants this thing, not that we care what they over there want, but our fans are notably unhappy with the tournament, and despite the money factor, Rangers need to get wise and withdraw.
The damage is already done by accepting, don’t make it 10 times worse by sticking with it…
