GVB with shock verdict on Rangers Down Under

Rangers Giovanni van Bronckhorst Aaron Ramsey

He wasn't too supportive....

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was unable today to endorse Rangers’ board decision to play Down Under this winter after saying he just had to ‘respect’ the call.

Rangers’ boss was speaking pre-match at his Aberdeen presser when the inevitable question surfaced about the controversial announcement to go to Australia for what is essentially a Celtic and Stavros love-in, and he said that while the board did things in the club’s best interests, this was a decision he would just have to ‘respect’.

If ever there wasn’t a ringing endorsement of a really dim-witted and ‘tone deaf’ decision by the board, this would be it.

Gio wasn’t able to praise it to the heavens, wasn’t able to support it fully, could only justify the club’s endeavours to find football while the world cup is on, but stopped well short of standing by this one.

Gio knows what the club is all about, and he understands it like fans do, and having been a player, and been inside the club as deep as it gets, he knows what it means, even going as far as to to acknowledge fans ‘aren’t happy’ with it.

And fans haven’t been happy with this board call, Gio certainly having more affinity with supporters than the suits.

Don’t we all!
