John Lundstram has finally won over his doubters following two outstanding MOTM-level performances (if not for on-fire Alfredo Morelos) after the midfielder once again found himself deployed in the deep-lying midfield role he thrives in.

Lundstram, 27, is on record as confirming the 6 is his best slot, the ‘Barry Ferguson’, but ex-manager Steven Gerrard mostly played him as an advanced CM with Steven Davis taking the 6. The NI star’s style slowed Lunny down and stopped him playing his natural game, making him look poor, attracting the ire.

It wasn’t till he started a run of 5 or so matches in that 6 position under Gerrard in September that fans saw just how good he was, and he became gloriously rated, only to inexplicably lose his position as was the former boss’s way.

Fans turned on Lundstram and forgot about him, dismissing him as nothing.

His renaissance under GVB has been lovely to behold, but we hope fans now realise 100% how good this guy is, and remember it.

The support has forgotten once, it can do it again.

But there’s no denying, at present, memory aside, he’s being very well received and recognised for the quality midfielder he is.

We pointed out he was around a £15M midfielder based on market value when we got him for free, which is why we argued he was the best signing Gerrard had made, certainly the biggest and the closest to a ‘Hollywood’ signing.

Now he’s showing just why he’s so lucrative, and why so many PL clubs wanted him.

And it’s delightful to see.

The question now is who gets the slot beside him – Kamara or Jack, because John Lundstram isn’t going anywhere.
