Rangers’ statement – what it means for 56

It’s safe to say a lot of Rangers’ fans concerns were alleviated yesterday. The return to action after the break hadn’t been great, with too many points dropped and performances being poor.

But the rampage of Hearts, themselves in top form and by a mile the best of the rest of the SPL did put to bed a lot of doubts many fans had as a result of Wednesday’s debacle.

What does it all mean for the title race?

The pressure, clearly, was on Rangers. Celtic made a statement in the first half midweek, and while Rangers responded better in the second half, the damage had been done and a lack of Alfredo Morelos didn’t help.

But responding in that way against the country’s third-best side, thumping them 5-0 made a statement of intent.

While Celtic have now gone into the lead, and are presently in a patch of form, the gap is just a single point, and it really is neck and neck now.

We remain confident Rangers will win the league, and we remain confident we have the right manager. Too many fans overreacted after Wednesday, wanting Gio fired and the squad replaced.

But yesterday showed the stuff the squad and manager have, a critical must-win.

And Rangers have a squad of champions while Celtic only have a few players left from their league-winning crew.

We know how to win this league, of Celtic’s starting XI yesterday just two significant league medalists were present.

They won the battle on Wednesday but we’ll win the war.
