Gio’s ruthless streak as Rangers’ ‘untouchable’ is dropped

Giovanni van Bronckhorst Rangers Hearts

He's not afraid to drop big names....

Earlier we mentioned the (justified) dropping of Borna Barisic, but another ‘victim’ of GVB’s ruthlessness was Finland’s Glen Kamara.

We stand by our view that he was one of Rangers’ few decent displays on Wednesday, and on top of what we saw, the stats for his performance back that up.

He was unfortunate to be the sacrificial lamb for a system and personnel change in the second half.

And found himself benched yesterday too, proving himself more than capable when he got a second half cameo.

Gio’s dismissal of the former Dundee man, after he was absolutely 100% untouchable under the ex-boss, shows no one is safe from being dumped for whatever reason.

Whether that includes the immortal Tavernier and Goldson time will tell, but at present Tav doesn’t deserve being dropped, and Goldson isn’t facing enough competition to be.

As for Kamara, he was solid on Wednesday and good again yesterday – he’s actually in half-decent form at the moment, and that shows that even the ‘untouchables’ are vulnerable under this manager.

His replacement was Ryan Jack, and he had a good game, even if many fans think his replacement was actually John Lundstram.

It wasn’t. Lundstram is a playmaking deep-lying midfielder, who works the defensive side. Kamara is a more versatile central midfielder who keeps it simple, keeps it neat, and rarely loses the ball.

But either way, Jack was replacing Kamara, as he did v Celtic.

It bodes well that we have competition for places, and a manager willing to change things up.

No matter who you are.
